Wenger rejected Neville's criticism and expressed his concern over Arsenal's average start

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his disappointment over his side's average start to the season. The Gunners, who are expected to be a strong title challengers have made a sloppy start to the season managing only one win from three games.

The 65-year old Gunners boss said,
"We have started very averagely, I must concede, because we have four points after two home games. Maybe we won the most difficult game away from home. At home at the moment we haven’t scored.”

Even though Arsenal played better in second half, they were unable to convert their chances in goals during their 0 - 0 draw with Liverpool on Monday (Matchday 03).

"The sharpness is missing a little bit in some players. I would like to give credit to Liverpool as well. They defended well, they were quick to close us down and we had problems getting out of position. We had the chances but we are still missing a little bit of a spontaneous attitude to finish what we started well.

"Our game is still not fluent enough in the final third, and that's why we didn't score. The West Ham game left a trace in our heads, and it was important tonight not to lose because you could see that was a shock for us and it was important for us to get that game out of our system."

Meanwhile, former Manchester United defender and present Sky Sports football critic Gary Neville has criticised Arsenal boss referring him as 'arrogant or naive'.

Neville said,
"I've got great respect for Arsenal as a football club. Arsene Wenger's job is absolutely amazing,

"But I just cannot get my head around why he would not sign players of power to assist these talented players that you've got to enable them to win the league.

"You sign (Mikel) Arteta and turn him into a midfield player, (Tomas) Rosicky signs as a wide player and you turn him into a midfield player, (Aaron) Ramsey plays midfield even though he's a wide midfield player.

"It's a continual string of errors. It's the one big black mark that I've got over Arsene Wenger these last 10 years - why he hasn't identified the issue with these types of players in central midfield because they cannot win the league with these types of players. It can't happen.

"(Cesc) Fabregas couldn't defend so (Jose) Mourinho puts (Nemanja) Matic or Ramires alongside him.

"I think it's arrogance, I really do. To think that you're not going to adapt your team to change to impact on another team's strengths. It's either naive or arrogance because they keep losing this way."

But former Arsenal great Thierry Henry defended Wenger saying: "I don't think it's arrogance, I think it's belief. Arsene and the players believe they can outplay teams."

Arsene Wenger reacted to Neville's criticism saying,
"I don't know what that has to do with arrogance," the Frenchman told reporters.

"I just try to do my job and I leave it to other people to assess my work.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I could prove to you that it's not necessarily right but let's not go into that debate.

"When you don't win you're wrong. But I think I have enough experience and intelligence to know when it's right and when it's wrong."
